History of Devoncourt and the surrounding area.

Devoncourt was built in 1962,  in the  Mid-Century Modernism of 1960s property design which has since given way to Neomodern, new classical trends, some classics never die. The middle of the 20th century was a changing era for architecture, design, and style. For 1960s design architect's , this was an exciting time.
The beauty of 60s property design was and is, today, the clean lines and minimalism of the building which can stand alone, in its simplicity and grandeur.
There is a Conservation Order on the building to preserve the 60's look for future generations.
2020 the bathroom has be replaced with A modern shower unit
2020-21 The full cooker has been replaced with a ceramic 50cm fan cooker
2018 all the balconies were relaced in line with current requlations and the conservation order, keeping the 60's look, for generations to come.

​1688 invasion of South Devon, below

Two grand houses sat on the land on which Devoncourt Stand. remains of which can been seen in the basement. They were badly damaged by the Germans on 14th May 1942 during  the second world war.

​The Slip Way in front of Devoncourt was built to allow tanks and armoured vehicles to board landing craft for the 6th June 1944 invasion of Europe. Mulbery harbours were built on the beach, and fast gun boats were deployed from the harbour and breakwater.

Prince William of Orange
​1688 invasion of South Devon.


William III was born on 4th November 1650. A Dutchman by birth, part of the House of Orange, he would later reign as King of England, Scotland and Ireland until his death in 1702.
On the 5th November 1688 Prince William of Orange landed in Brixham, unaposed which was to change the History of England. William eventually arrived in England; he landed, unopposed, at It was  several months before he and his wife Mary were anointed King & Queen of England, on 11th April 1689. 
​William’s reign came at a precarious time in Europe when religious divide dominated international relations. William would emerge as an important Protestant figurehead; the Orange Order in Northern Ireland is named after him. His victory at the Battle of Boyne on 12th July 1690 Boyne  A major conflict fought along the Boyne River in Ireland between King William III (Prince William of Orange) and the exiled King James II.
